Postcards from the 1890s and early 1900s

Early View Cards

The series of view cards that are of greatest interest to me bear the “Private Mailing Card" back, which is available in two designs.

Cards from this series sometimes come with a W.G. MacFarlane publisher’s attribution that states "Canadian Souvenir Cards, W.G. MacFarlane, Toronto".

The earliest series?

View Cards with Private Mailing Card backs

W.G. MacFarlane appears to have used the earlier Private Mailing Card back on the Quebec Greetings series of cards, which dates back to Sept. 1901. The series which had a variety of scrollwork designs around the image on the card. This same scrollwork shows on a series of cards from Fredericton, NB. This later back dates from July 1902.
